Welcome to DBD. 2023 has been the worst year on record for Data-Leaking Ransomware Attacks, and despite Law Enforcement gains, show no signs of slowing down. On a more positive note, our PRiSM platform continues to gain recognition and is now officially endorsed as a Ransomware Intelligence Resource by the SANS Institute. With that in mind, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your very much appreciated and continued support. Stay safe. :)

Global Data Breaches - December 2020

December 2020 saw another 134 Data Breaches reported which accounted for 148.3 Million Data Records reported compromised.

December's total amount of Data Breaches reported increased by over 30% from last month, but the total amount of Data Records reported compromised decreased by over 74% from last month.

The hardest hit sectors were Healthcare, Technology and Public Sector, with most breach types continuing to be Cyber Attack, Internal Error and Ransomware, accounting for over 73% of total Data Breaches reported this year.

This takes the complete yearly totals to 1,120 Data Breaches reported and 20.2 Billion Data Records reported comprised as of the end of December 2020, resulting in an over 17% increase in Data Breaches reported and an over 64% increase in Data Records reported compromised compared with 2019's yearly totals.
